Pueblo doesn't get talked about the way Denver and Boulder do. But the weather here is arguably harder on garage doors than anywhere else in the state.
Temperature range from 19Β°F in winter to 92Β°F in summer - and it regularly pushes past 100Β°F. Twelve days per summer above the century mark. That's not Front Range normal. Denver doesn't see that. Boulder definitely doesn't see that. Pueblo sits at 4,720 feet - lower than the rest of the corridor - and bakes in a way the northern cities don't.
Then winter shows up and the same city that was 102Β°F in July drops into the teens. Snow, ice at the base of the door, meltwater freeze cycles. The annual temperature swing here is massive. Over 70 degrees from the coldest winter night to the hottest summer day. Every metal part on your garage door is living through that full range every single year.
And the housing stock? Pueblo was built on steel. The CF&I mill on the south side was the biggest employer in Colorado for nearly a century. That industrial history means older homes, more affordable homes, and a lot of garage door hardware that's been running through Pueblo's extreme temperature swings for a long, long time.

What Makes Pueblo Different
Denver's problem is freeze-thaw. Boulder's problem is UV. Fort Collins has hail. Pueblo has all of the above plus summer heat that the rest of the Front Range doesn't deal with.
Those 90-plus days cook uninsulated garages past 130Β°F. Boards overheat. Weatherstripping softens and peels. Metal expands. Lube thins. Three straight months of baking.
Then fall cools off. By December the same springs that expanded all summer are contracting hard in 20-degree mornings. That full-range cycling - hot to cold and back - fatigues metal faster than cities with a narrower swing.
UV still hits hard at 4,720 feet. Pueblo gets more sunny days and less cloud cover than the northern Front Range. South-facing garages along Pueblo Boulevard or Mesa Junction cook for months. Dry air cracks vinyl, dries rubber, pulls moisture from wood. Everything gets brittle.
Winter meltwater freezes at the base too. Less often than Denver since Pueblo gets less snow. But when it happens - same story. Door bonds to concrete.
What We Fix
Springs - Pueblo's extreme range wears them out from both directions. Summer expansion, winter contraction. They don't last as long here as the rating suggests. Both replaced, same visit.
Openers - summer heat kills boards in uninsulated garages. Winter frozen lube grinds motors. LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman. Diagnose first.
Weatherstripping - EPDM handles Pueblo. Standard vinyl melts in summer and cracks in winter. At this temperature range, it's EPDM or you're replacing seals every year.
Cables - the thermal cycling stiffens and weakens them over time. Tracks loosen from expansion. Panels - hail when it comes, sun damage on south-facing doors year-round.
Where in Pueblo
South side - steel mill history. Bessemer, the neighborhoods around the old CF&I works. Older homes, older garages, hardware running since before anyone reading this owned the place. Serious deferred maintenance.
Belmont north side - mid-century homes with that 1950s-60s feel. Garages often skipped during renovations. Sound familiar?
University Park near CSU-Pueblo - more modern, convenient to I-25. Student rental market creates the same cycle we see near CU Boulder: tenants rotate, nobody services the garage, hardware fails mid-lease.
Ridge and Eagleridge north - newer luxury builds. Builder-grade hardware still young but Pueblo's temp range doesn't give new installs a pass.
St. Charles Mesa east - old farmhouses mixed with custom builds. Wide open wind exposure, zero shade on south-facing garages. UV does its worst out here.
Pueblo West across the river - different vibe, same Pueblo weather, same hardware problems.
